WHAT IS MAKING CONNECTIONS?

Thanks to a growing list of supporters, this unique programme has funded numerous partnerships with over 25 UK Universities including, Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial College, Manchester and UCL, as well as with eminent research centres including the Francis Crick Institute.  The programme has also inspired new Making Connections activities in France, Australia and USA.

Established in 2008, the Making Connections programme brings together scientists from the UK and Israel. It has been designed to cultivate scientific cooperation between the Weizmann Institute and UK scientists by providing funding for research collaborations and scientific meetings.

Making Connections is ideally placed to enable the kind of close cooperative working that is needed for scientists to succeed in making breakthroughs for the benefit of humanity.

“The lesson we must learn as we emerge from the pandemic, is that to create scientific solutions to global threats, we have to work together.”

Prof. Sir Andrew Pollard
Director of the Oxford Vaccine Group responsible for the Astra Zeneca vaccine, and recipient of a Making Connections grant for his scientific partnership with the Weizmann Institute’s Dr. Roi Avraham

“The Making Connections grant will be a game-changer for our research, allowing our collaboration to really flourish. Working internationally with partners is vital for the future of scientific research.”

Prof. Maya Schuldiner
Weizmann Institute has received a Making Connections grant this year allowing her to collaborate with Dr. Ewald Hettema at the University of Sheffield

YOUR GIFT IS VITAL

Each year Weizmann UK awards five Making Connections grants of up to $100,000 paid over two years for joint research projects between scientists at the Weizmann Institute and their UK-based partners.

Our goal, was to raise $1million (c. £750,000) to fund a further 10 new collaborations.

We are absolutely delighted that thanks to the generosity our supporters we have exceeded this initial target. It is in large part thanks to the philanthropic vision of The Dwek Family and The Bluston Charitable Trust that we were able to match fund the first £300,000 in donations.

In response to ongoing interest from our donors in further supporting the campaign we have decided to extend into July and have set an ambitious new stretch target of £1million.

Your support will mean that in these uncertain times we will have the opportunity to secure the future of this unique programme beyond next year, enabling us to fund more meaningful scientific collaborations between the Weizmann scientists and those at UK institutions into the future.

So please give generously today.
