Celebrating an extraordinary year with the Weizmann Institute

Each year the International Board meeting of the Weizmann Institute takes place in November. It is a wonderful opportunity for the International family of Weizmann supporters to get together on the beautiful campus in Rehovot to celebrate the Institute’s successes over the past year, thank those whose support has made a difference to the Institute’s work and most importantly to get an update on what the Institute does best: its scientific research.

This year was particularly special for Weizmann UK, having had the privilege to host the Global Gathering in London this summer,  we were delighted to bring a larger than usual group of UK supporters to Israel to round off this extraordinary year.

In particular, we were keen to celebrate the formal dedication of the Weizmann UK Building for Biocomplexity Research. This was the culmination of a successful a $5 million fundraising campaign to transform the building which provides new space for cancer research, laboratories to advance key investigations into inflammatory diseases such as Crohn’s and arthritis, and fertility research. Our supporters also had the opportunity to see their support formally recognised on the Institute’s Donor Wall.

During the many stand-out moments of the 68th Annual General Meeting, Laura Wolfson Townsley receiving her Honorary PhD in recognition of her philanthropic leadership was an undoubted and richly deserved highlight. Laura joins an illustrious list of honorands including, the late Marc Chagall, Artur Rubenstein, Riccardo Muti, Leonard Bernstein,  Zubin Mehta, Daniel Barenboim, Murray Perahia and Professor Lord Winston to name just a few.
